5 Star

Painted tropicalia pink, the Belmond Hotel das Cataratas stands out amongst the thick Brazilian rainforest surrounding it. Being the only hotel in the Iguassu National Park and the only accommodation so close to the famous Iguassu Falls, the Belmond Hotel offers views and experiences you really could not find anywhere else in the world. An amazing mix of jungle exploration and 5-star luxury, the Belmond is perfect for any traveller looking for the best of both worlds. So if you’re looking to unleash your inner amazonian prince/princess while enjoying living the high life, the Belmond is truly the place for you.

Top Tips

  • Set amongst gorgeous Portuguese Colonial features, each room offers a level of elegance and coziness that make the price tag well worth it. While all the rooms are equally well appointed and beautifully designed, some rooms offer better views than others. That being said, previous guests have mentioned that the rooms with views of Iguassu Falls are significantly more expensive than those without them. If you can’t afford a room with a view, don’t despair as you can still enjoy the Iguassu Falls anytime you like from the surrounding grounds. Pro tip: if they offer a free upgrade to a falls view room, take it!

  • It is worth noting that because of the park’s preservation efforts, personal cars are not allowed inside the gates. So forgo the car rental and arrange transport to and from the hotel prior to your trip. During your trip, you can also arrange pick-ups and drop-offs with the hotel at all of the major attractions in the surrounding area.

  • If you get bored of the luxuries of the Belmond and want to get your feet dirty, make sure to take in your tropical surroundings either through a nature walk or a kayak down the Banana trail, both of these options allow you to get a nice view of the flora and fauna in the park. For those looking for a more heart-stopping adventure, book an excursion that allows you to ride a rubber boat into the falls (yes, into the falls). Pro tip: make sure to pack your electronics in a waterproof zip-lock bag or just leave them in your hotel room to avoid any accidents.

  • If you want an even more unforgettable experience of the Iguassu Falls, take the walking trail down to it just before sunset. Not only will the view of the sunset colours over the cascading waters be absolutely breathtaking, you (and other hotel guests) will be the only ones enjoying the views as other park guests would have been filed out long beforehand.

  • If you want to up the ante on the personal rejuvenation and spiritual transformation that come hand-in-hand with being so close to such a magnificent work of nature, make sure to take a trip to Belmond’s in-house Cataratas Spa. Incorporating responsibly harvested rainforest ingredients, the treatments are designed to awaken the body and mind with the energising force of the Amazon.

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
