Located smack bang in the city centre, the Grand Hotel Stockholm makes an ideal homebase for anyone looking to explore the city’s many neighbourhoods, including Östermalm, Vasastan, Gamla Stan, and Södermalm. With a rich heritage dating back to 1874, the hotel exudes an air of history while beautifully weaving through modernity in every one of it’s amenities and luxuries; offering a truly unique Swedish experience.
Top Tips:
• The Grand Hotel Stockholm has an impressive 273 rooms in total, including Standard and Deluxe rooms as well as a wide variation of suites. So your choice of room really boils down to your budget, how much space you’re after, and what view you want. That being said, most of the hotel’s previous guests have recommended requesting a room with a waterfront view (these are popular rooms, so we recommend booking in early). It is also worth noting that other guests have recommended avoiding rooms on the 2nd floor as they are on the same level as a sidewalk that gets quite busy during the day.
• If you’re travelling as a family with children you will be happy to know that the Grand Hotel Stockholm is a very family-friendly place. Besides offering a few interconnecting rooms for families, the hotel’s in-house restaurant also has a children's menu that would please even the pickiest tots. For smaller families who are able to fit in one room or suite, a cot can be added free of cost while extra beds cost around 40 aud. Pro tip: babysitters can even be arranged for parents who are hoping for a bit of alone time.
• With a myriad of places to see and things to do, Stockholm really is a travellers paradise. Head to Gamla Stan (the old town) to take in the continent’s largest and well-preserved medieval city centres. Take a trip to Östermalm for a healthy dose of high-end shopping and historical museums. Spend a day sampling treats from the many coffee shops in Gamla Stan and end the night in one of the plethora of trendy bars in the area of Södermalm. So whether you’re looking for a low-key getaway or a jam-packed holiday, it’s safe to say that Stockholm is the place for you.
• After spending a few days exploring the streets of Stockholm, why not treat yourself to a spa day at the Grand Hotel Stockholm’s in-house spa, Nordic Spa and fitness. For a truly unique experience, we recommend trying out the spa’s Nordic Bath De Luxe treatment. The treatment goes at your own pace and includes includes a glass of sparkling champagne and homemade chocolate, an invigorating Scandinavian cranberry scrub, a nourishing face mask and a healing hair pack.
• If you’re looking to save a bit of cash during your stay, we recommend passing on the hotel’s restaurants in favour of one of the many affordable food spots around the city. Notable places include Östermalm’s Food Hall (with its numerous restaurants and cafés where you can enjoy traditional Swedish delicacies), Teatern (a place that combines the concepts of fine cuisine and popular food-court dining), and K25 ( an urban food court where you will find high-quality, inexpensive dishes from all over the world).
