4 Star

Right at the edge of the UNESCO-listed Ilulissat Icefjord, in beautiful Greenland is the world’s northernmost 4 star accommodation, Hotel Arctic. Overlooking a majestic bay filled with slow-moving icebergs, Hotel Arctic offers a once in a lifetime experience of not only admiring these beautiful glaciers but also the chance to be mesmerised by the northern lights and the twinkling of the bright, starry sky.

Top Tips

1. While the main building of Hotel Arctic houses a whopping 76 rooms and 9 suites that are open year-long, between the months of May and October you get the chance to book into and stay overnight in one of Hotel Arctic’s aluminium two-person igloo cabins that stand right at the edge of the coast.

2. The rooms and suites of the main building either have views of the town or views of the bay. While both are quite spectacular (given the surrounding landscape), if you have a preference, let the hotel know which room you’d prefer during your stay. If you do get the bay-view room, try requesting for one on a higher floor because the higher you go, the better the views.

3. Restaurant, stores and other local attractions are located a 20 minute drive away from the hotel and can be reachable via the hotel’s free shuttle bus. If you’re peckish or seeking a drink after a day of glacier watching without wanting to go into to town, don’t worry because Hotel Arctic has in-house restaurants and a bar that serve up delicious Greenlandic cuisine made from the finest and freshest local produce. If you’re visiting during summer, you can even enjoy a buffet and drinks on the Summer Terrace.

4. The hotel also boasts 5 star conference facilities. While this is great for conference goers, the crowd can get a bit annoying for holiday-makers. To make sure your stay does not coincide with one of the many conferences Hotel Arctic hosts every year, make sure to call the hotel and ask before you finalise your bookings and itinerary.

5. If you’re ever lucky enough to visit Greenland and Hotel Arctic during peak Northern Lights viewing season, definitely request for the front desk to wake you up when they are visible (yes, they do this! Talk about service!). Generally the viewing seasons are between the months of December and April.

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
