Arising like a mirage out of the still waters of Lake Pichola in Udaipur, India is the world’s most romantic hotel, Taj Lake Palace. Built in 1743 as a summer escape and pleasure resort by the royal dynasty of Mewar, this gorgeous palace was converted into a hotel in the 1960s. Housing 66 sumptuously decorated suites filled with rich colours and quality Indian textiles, all guests are treated and tended to like absolute royalty.

Top Tips

1. It’s an understatement to say that all the rooms in Taj Lake Palace are luxurious. But that being said, if you have the money to burn definitely book one of the heritage suites, particularly a corner suite like the Chandra Prakash Suite (which was actually the first choice of the maharaja). Bonus tip: It goes without saying that you should definitely request a room with a lake and city view.

2. If you have ever wanted to feel like royalty then you have to book yourself a stay at the Taj Lake Palace. Not only will you feel the royal vibes thanks to the rich history of the palace, you will also get to indulge in a round-the-clock butler service that comes as standard with every room (yes, EVERY room).

3. If you ever get bored of the Taj Lake Palace (unlikely), hop onto their on-demand water taxi that will take you across the lake to the city of Udaipur. Here you can explore  fantastical palaces, temples, havelis and countless narrow, crooked, timeless streets. Make sure to take in the city’s ancient bazaars, lively arts scene, and endless tempting shops while you’re at it.

4. If you’re looking to learn more about the history of Taj Lake Palace as well as that of the city of Udaipur, make sure to take advantage of the guided heritage walks hosted by the hotel. For even more of a local experience, take in the hotel’s astrology sessions and cultural shows.

5. Pamper yourself like a true royal at the floating spa, Taj Jiva. Through an in-depth understanding of traditional Indian practices and ancient rituals, the hotel’s in-house spa has created an exclusive range of signature experiences with a royal touch; including  traditional Indian foot massage, aromatherapy full body massages, and treatments using only the best ingredients to leave you rejuvenated and glowing.

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
