Located in the heart of Zadar’s historic Old Town just minutes away from the Sea Organ is the exclusive and contemporary Almayer Art and Heritage Hotel. Consisting of only 9 rooms, Almayer offers its guests a sense of privacy and comfort almost unmatched by any other hotel in the neighbourhood. Housed in a building that was once a military hospital, standing on grounds where there was once a monastery, Almayer allows you to not only stay amongst Croatia’s history but also lets you experience it first hand.

Top tips

1. While all the rooms and suites of Almayer Art and Heritage Hotel are beautifully decorated and are incredibly well-appointed, many guests have mentioned that the mezzanine suites are not suitable for guests with mobility issues as the beds are on the mezzanine floor and not accessible. It is also worth noting that bed types are on request only and may be subject to availability, so it would be advisable to make your request at the time of booking.

2. Larger groups of travellers or families with children will be pleased to know that The Junior Suites can sleep up to four people. These are, however, low in supply so make sure to book them well in advance of your stay. Pro tip: while children over the age of 12 are welcome to stay at the Almayer, there are no special facilities to keep them entertained.

3. If you wish to hire a car during your stay, it is worth noting that (as of publishing) the Almayer does not have its own private car park. Guests who have hired vehicles will have to park their cars on the side streets and public parking surrounding the hotel. Because of this, it would be recommended not to hire a car during your stay. If you do however decide to hire a car, let the hotel know in advance so they can make parking arrangements.

4. Location is everything when it comes to the Almayer. Being in the heart of the Old Town means that you are only a short stroll away from many of Zadar’s attraction. These include the Roman Forum, Romanesque churches, Unesco-listed Venetian-era fortifications, and the Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun installations. Pro tip: pack yourself a pair of walking shoes to make full use of your stay in the Old Town.

5. If you have a free day during your stay at the Almayer, make full use of the cafe and it’s attached courtyard. Waste an afternoon basking in the sunlight while enjoying a myriad of Croatian wines and delicious, freshly baked cakes (we hear that the olive oil sponge cake with orange and rosemary icing is to die for).

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
