Just a 17 minute boat ride from the famed Italian islands of Venice, on the island of Murano is the elegant and seductive LaGare Hotel Venezia. In true Murano fashion, LaGare is housed in a former glass factory, giving the hotel a sense of place and history amongst the generations of glassmakers that call this island home. Not to be outmatched by it’s Venetian counterparts, LaGare Hotel was designed with elegance and luxury in mind; it’s sleek yet plush interiors are testament to this. So for those looking to be close to Venice without actually being in Venice, LaGare Hotel Venezia is just the place for you.

Top Tips

• While LaGare Hotel is surrounded by gorgeous buildings and beautiful canals, it is worth noting that most of its 118 rooms do not have views as the hotel was built inside of an old glass making factory. If you are adamant on having a view however, previous guests have recommended booking either the Junior Suite or the Suite as these rooms have gorgeous views of the Grand Canal of Murano. If you’re not willing to pay extra for a view but want a bit more space, previous guests have recommended booking one of the Executive Rooms. Do note however, that these rooms are mezzanine suites with the bed on the upper floor so they are not suitable for travellers with mobility issues.

• If you or anyone you are travelling with has mobility issues, make sure to let the hotel know in advance so that they can prepare one of their 5 adapted rooms for your stay.

• If you’re wanting to experience Venice without having to deal with the crowds of tourists, Murano may be the right island for you. While the island does get a little vibrant during the day (with all the glass factory and Murano glass shopping tours), once the last ferry leaves for Venice, you basically have the entire island to yourself. Pro tip: if less crowds isn’t enough to tempt you to Murano, perhaps the fact that a hotel of the same size costs you twice as much in Venice will.

• If you think getting to and from LaGare Hotel to the airport, don’t despair because the hotel provides free (yes, free!) Airport Shuttle to all of its guests. Getting around Venice during your stay will be a breeze for two reasons. One, the hotel is only 10 minutes from the Murano Museo water bus stop, so getting public transport is really easy. The second reason is that LaGare Hotel Venezia offers all their guests free shuttles to Venice. So, while you may not be in Venice itself, getting there will take very minimal effort.

• For the uninitiated, Venice is part of a large cluster of islands (over 30 islands, to be exact) in Venetian Lagoon. While Venice is the most popular among visitors, it’s definitely worth visiting the other islands within the lagoon. Islands worth visiting include Murano (of course), Burano (famous for their vibrantly coloured homes), Torcello (a quiet island mostly made up of a nature reserve), and San Michelle (Venice’s cemetery island), Sant’Erasmo (an agricultural island known as the Garden of Venice). If you’re looking to explore all of these islands, it would definitely be worth your while to research and find half-day or even full-day sightseeing tours.

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
