5 Star

In the heart of the city, overlooking Zurich Lake and the alps is the gorgeous family hotel, Baur Au Lac. Located within its own landscaped park right next to Zurich’s financial district, this hotel allows guests to experience the best that the city has to offer. First opened in 1844, Baur Au Lac have been welcoming guests for centuries and enveloping them in the quintessential Swiss hospitality. As a high calibre hotel, Baur Au Lac offers it’s guest the utmost sense of comfort and luxury with all the fixings one would expect of a five-star hotel including, of course, it’s very own Michelin-starred restaurant.

Top Tips

• Baur Au Lac offers 119 rooms and suites, of them there are 27 junior suites and 18 suites. While all the rooms are individually and gorgeously styled, and immaculately well equipped, previous guests have recommended booking a lake-facing room for that extra wow factor. That being said, some guests have said canal-view rooms are better as they have their own balconies. For quieter rooms however, previous guests recommend booking courtyard view rooms. It goes without saying that if you really have your heart set on a particular room, it is best to book your room as early as possible.

• If you’re looking to arrive at the Baur Au Lac in style and at ease, it may be worth booking their VIP pick-up service. Thanks to their exclusive partnership with Zurich Airport, they are (literally) the only hotel in Zurich who are allowed to meet and greet their guests directly at the baggage claim carousel. They will then help you with your bags and chauffeur you straight to the door of Baur Au Lac. Talk about a VIP service!

• Hotel Baur Au Lac is known for going above and beyond for each and every one of their guests, even the little ones. Families travelling with young children will be happy to know that the hotel is more than happy to accomodate by providing all the necessary amenities needed to ensure your little one’s comfort; these include but aren’t limited to baby cribs, high chairs and night lights. If you need anything else, just let the staff know and they will do their best to fulfil your needs.

• One can’t really stay at the Baur Au Lac without a visit to their in-house restaurant, Pavilon. Run by Michelin starred, Chef Laurent Eperon, you’re guaranteed to be treated to a gastronomical experience unlike any other. As one of the most famous restaurants in Zurich, the Pavilon has gained a reputation of enchanting its guests with seasonal and modern interpretations of classic haute-cuisine. Because Pavilon is so incredibly popular with locals and visitors alike, it is advisable to book your place in advanced (yes, even if you are a guest of the hotel).

• For a different view of Zurich, try exploring Zurich West. This once dilapidated part of the city is quickly becoming the new heart of the city. Check ‘Viadukt’, a stretch of shops, restaurants and bars built into the arches of the old railway viaduct. Other West-side attractions include Frau Gerolds Garten where you will find cute little shops, an urban garden and some seasonal attractions such as a Saturday market in summer and a fondue tent in winter.

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
