Opened in 1913 and re-opened in 2013, The Hotel am Steinplatz is a unique property in Berlin’s West that was once the haunt of celebrities such as Vladimir Nabokov and Brigitte Bardot. Combining a splendorous Art Nouveau structure with intimate, high-end service, Hotel am Steinplatz offers a discreet but central location with an excellent restaurant and bar, and lovely rooftop spa. Occupying a leafy square that is just a 10-minute walk from the bustling area around Tiergarten Park, the area surrounding Hotel am Steinplatz offers some peace in the bustling big city.

Top tips

1. Hotel am Steinplatz houses 84 rooms and three suites. Each room and suite is individually designed so choosing one for your stay really just comes down to your budget and what view you would like. All rooms and suites are equally well equipped but if you’re looking to up the ante and splash some cash, previous guests have recommended booking the Spa Suite; your own personal wellness oasis with a spacious marble bathroom with a free-standing bathtub, a separate rain shower and an in-room sauna.

2.  One of the main reasons people stay at Hotel am Steinplatz is its location. Charlottenburg has a lot to offer foodies, artsies and avid shoppers. With a myriad of small boutiques, galleries, cosy cafes and restaurants, you could spend all day getting to know this leafy neighbourhood. Art lovers can discover exhibitions of contemporary photography in the C/O Gallery and the Helmut Newton Foundation, shopaholics can visit the department stores KaDeWe and Bikini Berlin which are just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel and foodies can spend an afternoon sampling currywurst and champagne at Bier’s ku’damm 195. If you want to discover other hot spots in the neighbourhood, make sure to check out the hotel’s in-house kiez guide when you get to Hotel am Steinplatz.

3. While Hotel am Steinplatz is very romantic in nature, families with young children are more than welcome to stay. The hotel staff will even make your children feel more than welcome with their own bathroom amenities and a special turndown service. Nearby attractions that would be great for kids include Tiergarten (where they will have plenty of space for a fun stroll, a trip in a rowing boat, or even just a picnic in the sun) and Berlin Zoo (located in Tiergarten and housing almost 20,000 animals of around 1,400 species in its 33 hectares).

4. While you’ll have just about everything you’d like at your doorstep, if you’re hoping to explore further, head to Berlin Zoologischer Garten train station which is just a 6 minute walk from Hotel am Steinplatz. If you’re only planning to travel only once in awhile on train, we recommend buying a one-day ticket (at up to 7 euros) on days you plan on travelling. If you plan on travelling a lot and are staying for a week or more, we recommend buying a seven-day ticket (for 30 euros).

5. After a long day of exploring your kiez and greater Berlin, you’ll probably find yourself longing for some rest and relaxation. Lucky for you, Hotel am Steinplatz has just the thing. Extended over 2 floors on the hotel’s rooftop, the hotel’s in-house spa offers a sauna and body treatments and massages using high-quality Thalgo products. For those of you looking to blow off steam, head to the rooftop 24 hour gym fully equipped with the latest equipment from Technogym.

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
