Set in the heart of Palmeraie, just a 20 minute drive from famed Marrakech, stands the luxuriously exclusive boutique hotel, Jnane Tamsna. Housing a mere 24 rooms across three buildings (Jnane House, Jnane Moussafir and Jnane Villa), Jnane Tamsna offers their guests more intriguing experiences and understated luxury than other Palmeraie villas at twice the price. In contrast to the hustle and bustle of Marrakech, Jnane Tamsna offers an escape from the hordes of humanity in the souks and alleys the pink city is so famous for. Here you are encouraged to sit back, relax and enjoy a slower pace of living.
Top Tips
• While all of the 24 rooms of Jnane Tamsna are equally well equipped and boast repurposed antiques and fair-trade, artisan-made furnishings that exude sustainable African chic, your choice of room relies solely on your budget and the size of room you’d like. That being said, previous guests have mentioned that the the Blue Animal Room (which is lovely and big with a fireplace), the Green Syrian Room (which overlooks the olive grove, the intimate Celadon Room (which has a four-poster bed), and the Casablanca room (which has a large private terrace) are amongst the best.
• If you’re travelling with children, you’ll be happy to hear that Jnane Tamsna is very much a family friendly hotel. Not only can they accommodate extra beds and cots in the larger rooms and suites, they also offer a myriad of activities and programs for their younger guests. These include a calligraphy class for children (where they can learn to write their names in traditional Arabic calligraphy, making a beautiful souvenir to take home), and a magic class (where they can learn magic tricks with Didier the magician, and watch him perform his own) they would absolutely love.
• If you’re looking to explore the property, Palmeraie or Marrakech itself, the hotel will be happy to arrange a tour for you. Whether you choose to explore the beauty of the palm grove on camelback, discover the surrounding oasis on a guided bike tour, venturing further beyond the walls of the old city and into the stunning landscapes of the Atlas Mountains, or roam the city and its outskirts in an elegant sidecar, the staff at Jnane Tamsna will be happy to arrange an excursion.
• You can’t really visit Marrakech (or Morocco, really) without experiencing a hammam and gommage. Lucky for you, there is an excellent hammam just five minutes away by car. And even luckier for you, the hotel will be happy to arrange bookings on your behalf. Be aware, however, a hammam and gommage is not an experience meant for the faint hearted or shy (you will be almost in the nude and being scrubbed clean by complete strangers) but it is an experience worth having.
• If you’re looking for authentic Moroccan fare, don’t look any further than Jnane Tamsna’s kitchen. Serving delicious Med-Moroccan fusion, the kitchen uses fresh ingredients from Jnane Tamsna’s own organic herb and vegetable gardens. The food is simple with a touch of French elegance. They specialise in fully organic dishes such as delicately spiced chicken, aubergine tartlettes and fabulously fresh salads, all served amid olive trees and date palms.
