On a quiet cobblestone street in Budapest’s historical centre, Castle District, is an exclusive industrial-style boutique hotel known as Pest-Buda. Originally opened as an inn as early as 1696, Pest-Buda is one of the oldest hotel in Hungary but still beautifully blends history with modernity. Here, one can marvel at the hotel’s original features and craftsmanship while being surrounded by the contemporary works of art and luxuries one would expect of a modern hotel. Because of its location, Pest-Buda is the perfect place to soak in the rich history of Budapest.

Top tips

1. While all the rooms of Pest-Buda are immaculately designed, incredibly well appointed and exude an unwavering sense of star quality, previous guests have suggested upgrading to one of the suite rooms. Not only will you be greeted with more space than the standard rooms, some of the suites of Pest-Buda even offer wonderful views of the surrounding neighbourhood. When it comes to value for money, previous guests have recommended booking a Courtyard room.

2. Since Pest-Buda is a small boutique hotel, it goes without saying that you would have to book your stay well in advance of your trip. Even more so if you had your heart set on a particular suite or room.

3. Pest-Buda is the perfect homebase for those hoping to explore the history of Budapest. Being in the centre of Castle District, a multitude of historical attractions can be found right at your doorstep; these include the Fisherman’s Bastion, Matthias Church, Buda Castle Tunnel, Buda Castle, and the Hungarian National Gallery.

4. While there are plenty of guided tours and excursions that the staff of Pest-Buda can arrange for you, if you’d prefer to explore Castle District and Budapest in a more independent style the hotel offers bicycle hire to all its guests.

5. It is worth noting that because Pest-Buda is housed in a historical building and while it is undeniably beautiful, it is not suitable for travellers with mobility issues. Moreover, if you have an aversion to stairs you should probably reconsider staying here as all the rooms are only accessible by stairs.

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
