If you’re looking for a budget place to stay in Budapest but just the mere thought of a hostel makes you shiver in fear, we may have found just the place for you. The Magazine Hotel, within a stone’s throw away from St Stephen’s Basilica and a short stroll to the Chain Bridge, is a boutique hotel with an upmarket hostel feel. Offering you a comfortable place to stay minus the bells and whistles that come with more expensive hotels, The Magazine Hotel is the perfect crash pad for anyone looking to stay in the beating heart of Budapest.

Top Tips:

• The Magazine Hotel houses 12 spacious rooms and 4 apartments. All of which have polished parquet flooring, and décor that’s deliberately stripped back and minimalist. Because most of the rooms are priced at around the same price range, choosing a room really just comes down to how much space you want and how much noise you can tolerate. Previous guests have mentioned that rooms facing St Stephens Square are quite noisy at all hours of the day and night; so if you want to feel like a part of the action these rooms are for you, if not, we recommend the Basilica view rooms.

• It is worth noting that the Magazine Hotel does not offer any food or drink, nor does it have an in-house restaurant/cafe/bar. There is, however, a basic kitchen where you can cook and eat your own meals if you wish. There is also a communal dining area containing multiple tables and chairs for an impromptu dinner. Pro tip: stock up on food and drink at the grocery store which is only 230 metres from The Magazine Hotel (stick to non-perishables if you’re not cooking immediately).

• If you or anyone you are travelling with has mobility issues it is worth noting that the Magazine Hotel has no disability-focused facilities as it is housed in an old residential block. If you don’t require wheelchair accessibility, you may be able to book a room or suite on the ground or lower floors. Before you book a room for your holiday however, we recommend calling the hotel to check on availability.

• Want to start exploring the real Budapest but don’t know where to start? The Magazine Hotel offers you a selection of their favorite Hungarian designer stores, fashion showrooms, salons, famous sights, must try restaurants, cafés and bars in a pocket map to serve as a guide for you in the ever changing capital of Hungary. Pro tip: pack a pair of your most comfortable walking shoes and make the most of the Magazine Hotel’s treasure map.

• If you’re hoping to get around wider Budapest, you’ll be happy to know that the Magazine Hotel is only a 4 minute walk to the closest subway station. You can easily get to any sight and attraction by travelling on one of the four metro lines. To make getting around easier, we suggest buying one of the Budapest City Cards; not only will you get unlimited free travel on public transport, the card also offers a range of discounts on tours, free entry to the permanent exhibitions of many museums, entry to the Lukács Bath etc.

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
