Located in the Oude Haven (Old Port) in Rotterdam, the brand new citizenM is a stylish contemporary hotel offering affordable luxury. While there may not be a wide range of facilities, where citizen lack in amenities, they more than make up for in good quality. CitizenM also takes a different approach to making you feel at home in their hotel. Instead of encouraging you to stay cooped up in your room, the hotel designed their lobby to feel like a comfy, inviting and homely living room where you can hang out with other fellow travellers.

Top Tips
• All the rooms of citizenM Rotterdam are modern, spotless, minimalist and practical, with white walls and bright red furniture. Making practical use of tight spaces, each room has either a harbour or courtyard view (previous guests have recommend a room with a harbour view). While the rooms may be a tight fit, you can enjoy a good night’s sleep in the comfortable king-sized bed, with luxurious pillows and linen. That being said, the small sized rooms mean that they’re best suited to single travellers or couples with no children. Pro tip: we recommend packing light as clothes can only be stored in a drawer under the bed.
• It is worth noting that citizenM takes a very hands off approach to hospitality and encourage independence in their guests.So much so that check in is a self-service process. While there is no reception, there are friendly staff members  that are always around to help if you have any questions. While the hotel encourages an independent stay, they also encourage mingling between guests by providing comfortable common spaces equipped with Apple Macs to use and plenty of books. If you are looking to wind down in the privacy of your own room however, you can also watch a wide range of films in-room for free.
• If you were hoping to indulge in some in-room dining, you may be disappointed to hear that room service is not available at citizenM. That being said, however, they do have CanteenM, the small bar on the first floor in between ‘living rooms’, that is open 24/7. Here you can get drinks, including expertly mixed exotic cocktails, barista-brewed coffee, and a variety of snacks like sandwiches and sushi. And if you’re lucky, you might even find a few quick warm dishes served too.
• CitizenM is located in Rotterdam’s Oude Haven (old harbour), where several restaurants are located. If you were hoping to explore the rest of the city, Rotterdam Blaak railway station is less than a two-minute walk away (exit Maasboulevard/Oude Haven). For a little culture trip, you can even Dutch cultural sights like the Markthal (market hall) and the Cube Houses are just a few hundred yards away.
• History and culture buffs will be happy to hear that there is an almost endless collection of museums to visit in close vicinity to citizenM. The Navy Museum of Royal Navy, Openbaar Vervoer Museum, Harbor Museum and the Maritime Museum Rotterdam are all within a 1 kilometre radius from the hotel.
