Located in the heart of Manhattan, the Gramercy Park Hotel is the perfect homebase for anyone looking to explore the entirety of the island.
Top Tips
• Being a hotel in New York, it is not surprising that the cheapest room of the Gramercy is a lot smaller than the average hotel room. Previous guests have mentioned that it is worth splurging a little to get a bigger room or to go full splurge and book the penthouse suite which comes with its own kitchen, dining room, and library. For those of you who’s budgets don’t allow for penthouse living, don’t despair, although the standard rooms may be small, previous guests have raved about the ones with park views. Pro tip: park view standard rooms are limited, so make sure to book yours well in advance of your stay.
• For those of you travelling with children, you’ll be happy to hear that the Gramercy welcomes little ones with open arms. Not only can parents pick up special children’s robes and family-friendly DVDs from the concierge, or ask for extra beds and cots or babysitters, the hotel allows guests exclusive access to Manhattan’s only private park, Gramercy Park. Not only does this park offer a rare opportunity for privacy in the heart of New York City, it also offers parents peace of mind and a secure place for their children to play.
• For the art enthusiasts out there, Gramercy Park Hotel offers a rare opportunity to experience museum quality art in an intimate environment. The walls of the Gramercy Park Hotel’s lobby, guest rooms, event spaces and bars, are lined with masterpieces by great artists from Warhol and Basquiat to Damien Hirst, Keith Haring and Richard Prince. Being a living breathing entity (much like New York City itself) the works change regularly ensuring guests never have the same experience twice.
• While the Gramercy Park Hotel’s location was chosen to make it easy for guests to be secreted away from the hustle and bustle of the city, it also makes it the perfect home base for anyone looking to explore New York City. The 6 train is about a five-minute walk from the hotel and if you want to venture further out of the city, Grand Central Station is a five-minute drive down Park Avenue. From there, you can board Amtrak services to other destinations all over the USA. On top of that, Penn Station is around the same distance from the hotel; jump on the Long Island Rail Road if you’d like to escape to the Hamptons.
• For those of you looking to have a boozy outing during your stay, it’s worth noting that the Gramercy has two notorious watering holes in house, the Rose Bar and the Jade Bar. These popular New York City hangouts offer the city’s glamorous the chance to sip cocktails by candlelight (at a steep price, of course). If you’re looking for a cheaper night out, Pete’s Tavern (a great place to grab craft beers with your friends) and Dear Irving (an intimate cocktail parlour) are only a 5 minute walk away from the hotel.
