Tucked away within the confines of Aix-en-Provence is the luxuriously romantic La Maison d’Aix. Bought in 1903 by Mademoiselle Henriette Reboul as a personal hideaway for her and her many lovers, this hotel now offers romantics a place to relax and unwind. Each moment spent at this hotel is pure escapism. Write a novel, daydream, indulge in peaceful moments, and reconnect; the Maison is what you make of it.
Top Tips
1. It’s a bit of a maze to get to the hotel itself as it is in the medieval centre of the Mazarin quarter of Aix-en-Provence. So with that in mind, make sure to get clear directions from the hotel staff (who are always happy to help) or download directions from Google Maps before your trip!
2. There are only four rooms in the Maison and each offer their own unique escape from the hustle and bustle of Aix. Choose the rooms on the lower floors for luxury that’s a little easier on the wallet, or go all out to impress your significant other in the Love Suite on the top floor.
3. The Maison is three stories high and there is no elevator, definitely factor that in when deciding which room to book. Bonus tip: this hotel books out very quickly, so make sure to book well in advance!
4. To take your romantic relaxing holiday to another level, head to the indoor spa pool in the basement. Heated at a cosy 29 degrees, it is perfect for a winter rendezvous.
5. While the Maison itself houses beautiful paintings and art pieces within it’s walls, the art scene surrounding the hotel is truly alive and well. Ask the hotel staff for recommendations on which galleries and museums to visit.
