If you’re looking to enjoy the Thai island of Koh Samui but would rather not have to brave the drunken crowds, Sensimar may be just the hotel for you. This spic-and-span adults-only boutique resort offers indulgent comfort, great views, wonderful staff, bright rooms, a 40-metre pool and a wide variety of excellent facilities to appeal to those looking for a classic beach holiday. Located on the Mae Nam beachfront, one of the quieter, less built up parts of the island, Sensimar is a getaway built for those seeking to party less and relax more.

Top Tips

• All of the rooms and villas of Sensimar are designed in a luxurious yet minimalistic style with a huge effort made to minimise the resort’s environmental impact (exemplified with their use of furniture made from bamboo and an efficient wastewater treatment). While all the rooms are comfortable and absolutely gorgeous, guests have recommended booking a room with a sea view. If you have even more cash to splash, it’s definitely worth booking one of the Beachfront villas. Not only will you have immediate access to the beach, you’ll have full use of your very own private pool.

• While Sensimar is all about rest and relaxation and less about boozy holidays, they cannot accommodate families with children as they are strictly an adults only resort. Given its low-key luxurious vibe, Sensimar is definitely more suited to and built for a romantic couple’s getaway or honeymoon rather than a family holiday.

• While there are in-house restaurants and bars (and room service) for all of your food and beverage needs, it may be worthwhile venturing outside the walls of Sensimar for something a little more authentic. Only a few minutes’ walk away from the resort, you will find Mae Nam’s main road which is lined with bars, restaurants, and shops worth exploring.

• If you’re looking for more of a chilled out night out, then Mae Nam is just the area for you. Unlike the bars, clubs and red light districts of Chaweng or Lamai, Mae Nam embraces the more laid back nightlife trends with venues that suit all budgets and tastes like friendly pubs, sophisticated lounge bars, and relaxing beachfront unpretentious venues.

• For the price you pay, there is no shortage of free activities to take part of at Sensimar. On the beach, kayaks and snorkeling masks are free of charge. You can also enjoy yoga sessions, cooking courses, exotic fruit tasting, an introduction to Thai wines and even cocktail lessons all for free. Outside the walls of Sensimar, you can partake in a guided tour to the nearby once-weekly Walking Street market in Mae Nam.

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
