In the outskirts of the beautiful English city of Bath, nestled on seven acres of lush garden is the gorgeous bed-and-breakfast known as Tasburgh House. Built by the royal photographer to Queen Victoria, the fourteen luxurious rooms of this b&b are truly fit for a king. With classic Victorian features such as in-room marble fireplaces and stained glass over the stairs, you could easily be fooled into thinking you were in the presence of the royal families of yesteryear.
Top Tips
1. Tasburgh House offers its guests a choice of fourteen individually styled and extremely well appointed rooms. Named after authors and each housing a teddy bear dressed in a style related to the name of the author and a book by the writer, you’ll be spoilt for choice as to which luxurious room you’d prefer to retire in. That being said, if you or any of your fellow travellers have mobility issues, make sure to request one of the two wheelchair accessible garden rooms.
2. While all the rooms are plush and fit for royalty, previous guests have recommended requesting and booking rooms at the back of the property. Rooms on this side of the property are graced with beautiful views of Tasburgh House’s gorgeously lush gardens.
3. Even though Tasburgh House is on the outskirts of Bath, it is only a 20-30 minute lovely stroll along the canal at the bottom of the grounds to the heart of the city. So make sure to pack your walking shoes to take in the fantastic English scenery and amazing architecture of Bath.
4. If you ever find yourself at Tasburgh House during the Christmas period (between late November to early December) make sure to visit Bath’s award-winning Christmas Market. With over 200 twinkling chalets spread out across the picturesque Georgian streets of Bath selling handmade and local Christmas gifts, you’ll be able to soak up the sights, smells and festive ambience of Christmas.
5. The city of Bath was declared a World Heritage Site 30 years ago. To truly experience the history of the city where bathing in the spa water was enjoyed 2,000 years ago, make sure to visit the Roman Baths; a magnificent temple and former bathing complex. Here you can walk in the footsteps of the Romans on the ancient, original stone pavements around the steaming pool. The extensive ruins and treasures from the spring are beautifully preserved and presented.
