Along the winding Old Bangalow Road, just an 8 minute drive from Byron Bay’s town centre is the ever-welcoming, Abelia House. Home to just three guest rooms, this bed and breakfast is the epitome of secluded luxury. Set amid the tranquil beauty of Woodlands Sanctuary on 100 acres of stunning forested bushland, this property embodies the laid back, slowed down pace of life that Byron Bay is so famous for.
Top Tips
1. Because Abelia House is in quite a secluded area, it is highly recommended that you hire a car for the length of your stay if you want to explore more parts of Byron Bay. However, if your itinerary includes multiple nights out on the town, this may not be the place for you as getting back to the bed and breakfast might present as quite a challenge.
2. While the hotel boasts its Garden Room as the best room they have, previous guests have stated that all three rooms are equally well-appointed. They all come with comfortable queen beds, elegant ensuites, french doors that open onto verandahs, free WiFi, ceiling fans, a bar fridge, and tea and coffee making facilities. If however, you have your heart set on a particular room, make sure to book your stay well in advance to avoid disappointment.
3. Abelia House is the perfect place for anyone looking to explore the beautiful nature that surrounds Byron Bay as Woodlands is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, like wallabies, koalas and many rainforest birds. There are also several walks on the property that you can take to enjoy the tranquil beauty of your surroundings.
4. The bed and breakfast is all about enjoying the quiet beauty of nature which is why none of their three rooms is equipped with a television. Don’t despair though, for there is free WiFi throughout the entirety of the property (just make sure to load your laptop/tablet/phone with your favourite movies and shows, just in case).
5. During your stay, you should definitely visit Arakwal National Park and Tallows Beach. Walking through the park (to get to the beach), you might be greeted by a wallaby or two and when you reach Tallows Beach, you’ll be in awe of the seemingly endless stretch of white sand that is much less hectic and crowded than Byron’s main beach. If you’re lucky, you’ll have the whole beach to yourself. Beware when swimming however, as the water can be very rough and there are no lifeguards patrolling Tallows Beach.
