In a 38-acre rainforest in Queensland, Australia, surrounded by waterfalls and plants that date back 650 million years, is the lush Daintree Eco Lodge and Spa. Built up of 15 villas and bayans, Daintree Eco Lodge offers luxuries you wouldn’t expect to find in the middle of the jungle. High above the rainforest floor, the treehouse like accomodation allows you to be at one with nature while enjoying all the comforts that come with a luxury hotel. With strong ties to the local aboriginal community, Daintree is run in accordance and respect to the tribe.

Top tips

1. While all the rooms of Daintree Eco Lodge and Spa are immaculately designed and incredibly well appointed, only a select few come with your very own jacuzzi. So, if you’re looking for a romantic getaway, make sure to book the Rainforest Bayan with a bathtub/jacuzzi on your very own balcony overlooking the lush, World Heritage listed Daintree rainforest. It goes without saying that if your heart is set on one of these bayans, make sure to book it well ahead of your trip.

2. If it’s more of a view you’re looking for, previous guests have suggested booking one of the bayans overlooking the neighbouring freshwater lagoon. If you’re hoping to stay connected during your trip, these bayans are also said to be the ones with the strongest, widest ranging WiFi connection.

3. Daintree Eco Lodge is the perfect homebase for outdoor junkies hoping to explore the wild side of Queensland. The eco lodge offers recommendations for a myriad of guided activities from rainforest walks, river cruises. Great Barrier Reef trips, fishing charters, bird watching excursions, jungle surfing, and Mossman River drift snorkelling. Just ask the friendly staff for recommendations at the start of your trip.

4. While there are plenty of operators that offer guided tours of the region, if you’re not one to shy away from a little independant adventure, definitely consider hiring your own car during your stay. This way, you can explore the Daintrees at your own pace and make the most of your stay at the eco lodge.

5. Besides being the epicentre of adventure and exploration, Daintree also houses a world-class spa that offers amazing treatments. Previous guests have noted that the signature treatment, walbul-walbul, with it’s warm-oil and desert-salt massage, full-body exfoliation, mud wrap and head treatment is truly one for the books. For women looking for a transformative experience,  there's the memorable wawu jirakul which takes place outside in the rainforest next to Daintree’s private waterfall and involves massage with locally sourced mud followed by an invigorating waterfall rinse. This cleanse is only for women because the waterfall is a sacred women's site for the local Kuku Yalanji people.

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
