If you’re looking for Asian influences in Central America, look no further than the Banyan Tree Cabo Marques. Retaining its distinctly Southeast Asian aesthetic with Thai-style gazebo loungers, Chinese lanterns and terracotta ceramics, the Banyan Tree beautifully marries this Asian style with Mexican hospitality. While the resort is well out of earshot of Acapulco’s noisy bustle, it more than makes up for it with panoramic views of the azure Pacific Ocean disappearing across the western horizon. Top Tips
• Banyan Tree Cabo Marques is made up of 45 oceanfront villas looking out across the mighty Pacific. Room sizes range from 2-person Hillside Pool Villas all the way to 15-person private Villa Cerezo. It is however, worth noting that the villas do feel quite close together in places, so they lack the total and utter privacy some guests may expect. Previous guests have mentioned booking one of the villas further up the hillside for a lower price and added privacy. These villas, however, do mean that you’ll be further from the communal areas and will have to call a buggy service to get to and from your room. Pro tip: if you have a particular villa in mind, we recommend booking well in advance of your stay.
• A lot of people see Banyan Tree Cabo Marques’ isolation as both a blessing and a curse. While you’re a world away from the hecticity of Acapulco’s hustle and bustle, this means that hailing a cab by the roadside is impossible and that hiring a car/cab to get back and forth can get pretty pricey pretty quickly. That being said, this resort has everything one could ever want or need (i.e. a modern gym, shared pools, a spa, a library, a gallery, and four in-house restaurants) so leaving the resort is never really that necessary.
• If you’re travelling as a family, it is worth noting that the resort considers children aged 13 and above as adults and therefore charge an extra A$90 per night for their stay in the same villa. We highly recommend the Ocean View Two Bedroom Pool Villas and Residences for families travelling with children. These villas offer you an added sense of luxury and privacy as they come with sundeck and a heated pool. Pro tip: for a lovely family dinner, order an in-villa barbecue and dine on your sundeck under the open skies, as you take in the panoramic sea and landscape views.
• For foodies visiting the Banyan Tree Cabo Marques, it would excite you to know that the resort offers you the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the culinary world’s finest. Upon request, resort guests can partake in any number of master classes where you get to learn from the resort’s celebrated chef and take a tour through the intricacies of each region's diverse spices to learn how to best unleash the flavours in their favourite dishes. It is a truly delightful experience for your mind and your tastebuds!
