Located within Georgetown’s UNESCO district and listed under the UNESCO Conservation & Heritage award, is the historic Blue Mansion boutique hotel. Step inside and you’ll be transported into Penang’s rich history and greeted by the transcendental quality and timelessness of this iconic mansion. While the hotel was built in the 19th century, it offers all the amenities you’d expect from a modern hotel.

Top Tips

1. The Blue Mansion is located very close to a hawker centre, and while this offers a glimpse into the food culture of Malaysia, it can also get very noisy. Make sure to specifically request a quiet room when booking your stay as the hotel staff will happily accommodate your needs.

2. There’s way more to explore in Penang besides Georgetown, so make sure to rent a car during your stay on the island. Parking will not be a worry as hotel guests are welcome to park their cars in the hotel parking lot. Alternatively, borrow a (free) bicycle from the hotel and explore the nearby neighbourhoods.

3. While all the rooms are well appointed and absolutely gorgeous, for an added dose of luxury during your stay, make sure to book the Tang Double Room. The ensuite bathroom features your very own spa bath!

4. Being an older building, there are no elevators to help you get to higher floors. So, if accessibility is an issue for you, make sure to request a room on the ground floor; preferably one facing the gorgeous courtyard.

5. Before heading out to explore all the history and culture that Penang has to offer, whet your cultural appetite with a fully guided tour of the Blue Mansion and don’t forget to experience the cultural museum as well.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
