5 Star

Looking for family-friendly five star luxury? We may have just the thing. Hovering above the golden sands of the Portuguese coastline, with the Costa Vicentina Nature Reserve embracing it from behind, is the beautiful Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort Hotel. Built and run with the whole family in mind, Martinhal offers heaps of luxury to please the parents and heaps of fun to keep the children happy. With amenities, facilities and activities to suit literally all ages, Martinhal truly is a playground of possibilities.

Top Tips

• Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort Hotel is made up of 37 rooms including two duplex Beach Suites, all of which have private balconies or terraces that allow for impressive ocean views. All the rooms of Martinhal are equally well appointed and comfortably decorated, so picking a room just comes down to how close to the action you want to be. While the sea view rooms are gorgeous and comfortable, families who are looking for more space and privacy would prefer one of the garden houses which are further away from the common areas and therefore quieter.

• The best thing about Martinhal is that there are activities for guests of literally every age (specifically 6 months onwards). Not only does the hotel’s kids and teens clubs offer a range of fun and creative activities, Martinhal also features a Sports academy where boys and girls can polish their skills or learn new techniques in activities such as surfing, windsurfing, paddle boarding, swimming, tennis and football. Pro tip: all clubs are very popular and places are limited, so it is advisable to book your activities in advance to avoid disappointment. Activities can be bought on a daily basis, or pre-purchased at special rates.

• One of the things that kids love the most about Martinhal is the Beach Club Pool. Located just above the beach, the Village Square has two gorgeous swimming pools which are perfectly family friendly. While the younger children prefer the Oasis Pool (which is a free-form swimming pool that has an imaginatively designed beach entry), the older tweens and teens absolutely love the pool that is part of Club 98 (the hotel’s tennis and sports centre).

• For the kid that enjoys a more relaxed holiday, the Finisterra Spa offers guests, big and small, an escape into a world of relaxation and pampering. From baby massages, children’s manicures, teenage facials, mommy body wraps and daddy massages, and grandparent relaxing foot massages, they truly do have it all! Pro tip: the spa is incredibly popular among Martinhal’s guests, so we highly recommend booking your treatment in advance to ensure that your preferred time and service is available.

• As Martinhal is a family-friendly resort, it will get quite busy during the European school-holiday period. If you do find yourself at the Martinhal Resort during peak season, previous guests have suggested having breakfast near the pool area as there tends to be less people there and as a result, it’s quieter and less hectic venue to enjoy your meal.

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
