Ever wanted to stay in an artist's lucid dream? Thanks to the team behind the brand new Torel Avantgarde Hotel in Porto, you can! Built and designed with a focus on the arts, each room in Torel Avantgarde Hotel is named after a painter, writer, designer or musician and decorated to reflect the artist’s personality and work. So if you’re looking for a place where you can fully immerse yourself into art, absorbing it in all its expressions, this is the space for you to live, touch, and breathe art.

Top Tips:

• Torel Avantgarde Hotel houses 47 eclectic and charming hotel rooms, some of which even offer fantastic river views. Each of the rooms is different, in both décor and layout; from the black, white and coral tones in the Coco Chanel space to bright pop colours in the Andy Warhol room; there’s a room to suite any variety of tastes. Pro tip: if you’re looking to up the ante during your stay, ask to book a room with a balcony and river view; what better way to end the day that with a glass of wine overlooking the beautiful Budapest.

• If you’re travelling as a family with children, you’ll be glad to hear that Torel Avantgarde is a very family-friendly hotel. Regardless of age, all children are welcome to stay and additional cots/single beds can be provided at a cost of €40. If you and your family are looking for a bit more room, interconnecting rooms are also available (as these rooms are less regularly available, we recommend booking them well in advance of your stay).

• If you or anyone you are travelling with has mobility issues, you’ll be happy to hear that Torel Avantgarde is a wheelchair accessible hotel. Not only is the entirety of the hotel accessible via lifts, the hotel also has an adapted room, the Joan Miro, available for disabled guests. It is worth noting that Porto is a very hilly and not very wheelchair friendly city, so if you are looking to get around in a wheelchair, we highly recommend hiring a car or taxi for the day. Pro tip: you can even get the hotel’s staff to help you arrange for a car during your stay.

• The piece de resistance of Torel Avantgarde Hotel has to be it’s location. Set high on a hill with views over the rooftops to the river glimmering below, it will easily take your breath away. Beware however, the views aren’t the only thing that will take your breath away, it’s the hills. While you can easily explore most of Porto’s attractions on foot downhill, it is extremely advisable to grab a taxi back up the hill on the way home is advisable.

• Torel Avantgarde Hotel is only 500 metres away from Porto’s UNESCO World Heritage listed Old Historic Town. Despite it’s heritage status, not too many tourist flock to this part of Porto, so it’s definitely worth taking advantage of the peace and quiet and taking in the sights of it’s crumbling pastel-coloured houses while you can. While it may seem a little deserted compared to other touristy parts of Europe, there’s definitely a kind of charm within the old town’s decaying grandeur.

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
