Positioned right on Tamariu’s small seafront promenade, Hotel Tamariu has got all the ingredients required for a laid-back beach holiday. This family-friendly hotel is the oldest in Tamariu and one of the oldest on the Costa Brava but it has been tastefully decorated to feel fresh and contemporary. With the fourth generation of the same family running the hotel, there is a definite casual, child-friendly vibe throughout. So if you’re looking for a low-key family getaway to Catalonia, Spain, Hotel Tamariu may be just what you need.

Top Tips

• There are a total of 17 rooms in Hotel Tamariu ranging from single rooms to penthouses, all of which are simply but stylishly decorated. Picking a room for your stay really just comes down to how many people you’re travelling with and what views you’d like to wake up to. Previous guests have recommended booking one of the penthouse rooms on the top floor of the hotel as these rooms come with a spacious terrace and gorgeous ocean views. Pro tip: it is worth noting that the sea view rooms do overlook the promenade as well so there will be a bit of noise during the day.

• If you’re travelling as a family, this hotel is the perfect place for you. Because the hotel is family-run and has been for the past four generations, it definitely has a child-friendly feel throughout. For extra sleeping space, cots are free and extra beds for children are just €35 (£30) per night and include breakfast. For larger families, there are also two interconnecting rooms on the sea-facing side of the hotel. Pro tip: if you do require the interconnecting rooms, it is worth booking your stay well in advance to avoid being disappointed.

• If you or anyone you’re travelling with has mobility issues, it is worth noting that while the hotel is not specifically adapted, it is wheelchair friendly. With lift or ramp access throughout the hotel, guests with mobility issues will be able to access the hotel in its entirety. On top of that, there are five rooms in Hotel Tamariu that come with walk/wheel-in showers rather than baths. If you do need one of these rooms, it is worth letting the hotel know well in advance of your stay.

• If you’re looking to get sand between your toes, you’ll love the fact that the the rough-sand beach of Tamariu is only about a 30 seconds’ walk from the front door. On top of that, the larger, sandier beaches of Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc are less than 20 minutes’ drive away. Moreover, Hotel Tamariu is also within easy reach of medieval hilltop towns such as Begur and Pals.

• Being the ideal place for a family getaway, Costa Brava offers a range of great experiences to enjoy your holiday together as a family. These include the several waterparks on the Costa Brava which are renowned for their safety, comfort and quality (Aquabrava, Water World, and Aquadiver to name a few), tropical gardens that your kids will love (including a Butterfly Park and a Botanical Garden), and natural parks and trails for the whole family to enjoy.

With close to 10 years in the travel industry, it's safe to say that I'm a travel addict.

Since my first flight at 8 months of age, I've travelled extensively through Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and part of North America. Some of the highlights were sleeping under the stars in the Wahiba Sands in Oman, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, walking on the Great Wall of China, climbing the Eiffel Tower, cruising from St Petersburg to Moscow, eating streetfood in Penang, exploring the Rocky Mountains in Canada and hanging loose in Hawaii.

I currently spend all my time putting together epic life-changing mastermind retreats or meticulously planning Luxury Tailor-made holidays around the world.
